Joining AOL Canada to become the sole person to manage all SEO/SEM/SMM duties has proven to be one of the best career decisions I have ever made. It provided tremendous opportunities to enhance my skills and knowledge and most important of all, invaluable experience in planning, executing, and measuring search engine marketing initiatives for one of the biggest corporations in the world.
The most challenging experience at AOL Canada happened in late 2007 when 6 different channels were to be redesigned and relaunched within a very short time frame. Any oversight or miscalculation in the planning and execution process could destroy the established link equity and rankings of the old channels. All aspects of SEO were diligently considered - including few site structures, designs, navigations, user interface, domain names, keywords, as well as redirect plans, pre-launch and post launch execution, etc. At the same time, all other existing sites were not to be neglected. The outcome was a success as all new channels benefited greatly from the new designs that were SEO focused.
Main Responsibilities at AOL Canada
- provided SEO enhancement recommendations for all existing AOLC web properties
- provided SEO requirements for all new projects, ensured the accuracy and completion of the SEO implementations
- provided SEO trainings to all work groups, including the editorial team, web development team and the QA team
- provided SEO audit and analysis for the AOL Media Network partners
- conducted web analysis and provided meaningful reports with Omniture to all key stakeholders
- executed link building campaigns, SMM initiatives
- communicated with the core SEO group at AOL LLC and the analytical team in Bagalore, India
- managed SEM campaigns on Google, Yahoo! and MSN
- provided online marketing planning and recommendations
